Wikia, once called Wikicities are defined as communities. The free hosting by Wikia, Inc. and easy setup of MediaWiki allows these sites to appear spontaineously. Some grow exponentially to large proportions, others stagnate. Meta Collab is looking at Wikia and and several Wiki collaborations.
